Mmm. Hello all.

I haven't posted in a bit, I guess. Or maybe it just seems that way because so much has happened. First and foremost, the Oscars. *is still all smiley*

It was a good night, people. Was anyone else rather endeared by camerashy!Fran? She's a cutie. And I'm quite happy that Master and Commander picked up a few awards as well. It was a good night to be Billy Boyd, I'm thinking.

The conference went well over the weekend. Our paper recieved an honorable mention, meaning it was in the top five of about 20 or 25 papers in a 7 state area. Not bad at all.

Plus, Minneapolis is always fun. E block shopping and downtown driving.

Midterms this week. I'm sort of avoiding my religion essays right now. But hey, my week's looking up- I've only got two left, including these essays.

What else? Oh, we watched The Last Temptation of Christ. No one will be able to convince me it wasn't a romantic drama. The chemistry between Harvey Keitel and Willem Dafoe was... bizarre, really.

[livejournal.com profile] fileg Has done this meme thing in which you chose some of your favorite lines from fic that you have written.

Suddenly, Denethor seemed to notice his second son's presence, and he shifted from his position on the floor to look up at Faramir. For a moment he just stared at the boy, then suddenly he spoke.

"My wife is dead, Faramir. Do you know what that means? Your mother is gone, and she will not return to me."

--from "Dying Young." I really like this because I think it illustrates the essence of Denethor. Yes.

So on they went. Across plains and through battles, into caves and coronations alike. And Aragorn did not look for Boromir in the world around him, he no longer needed anything to remind him of his loss. He had shared the memory once, to save it. Now, he hoards it for the same reason. There were still some things that should only belong to him, leader of the people or no.

--from "Earthly Ships and Songs of Grief." The first two lines please me especially.

“Come with me."

He became half-angry, that was no answer and dammed if he would chase after an Elf. But Legolas gave him a look so similar to how he looked at the sea that it startled him.

And he couldn't refuse.

--from "Leaving and Longing." Legolas and Gimli are teh cute.

"Tell me, how are you so small?" Finduilas crouched over her newborn's cradle, cooing softly to her firstborn son. "You are so perfectly tiny. I love you so, my son."

She reached out to stroke his cheek and smiled as he waved a strong little fist and wrapped his fingers around one of hers. "I see you will be strong, my little boy." Reaching down to pick him up she rocked him, singing softly a song from the sea, one that spoke of history.

--from "Pivot." More Finduilas. She's one of my favorites and this is one of my favorite pieces.

She closes her eyes to shut it out, not surprised when it has no effect. This is her test. She can resist.

She must.

--from "Sway." Also another of my favorites. Galadriel is all shiny and stuff.

Her husband tries, but he does not understand. He tries to soothe her with his love, ease the hurt in her heart. He sees her rage and it terrifies him, she who could be an elf-queen of terrible power. Did not the blood of the Maiar run in her veins?

--from "Perfect." Arwen's a little evil in my head, sometimes.

And, because I'm whoring myself already, go read Unlost. You don't have to know the Silm to get it, and I really would like some feedback on it, as it's different from anything I've done before.
