Sad to say, I trashed firefox and downloaded opera. Tragic, I know, but at least now I have a browser that my computer doesn't reject viciously every other day.
...which is to say, I can post in LJ more often, now.

Here are the things I know, just in case you were wondering.
-
dien will be visiting, starting wednesday. I'm trying to arrange snow for her, but my roommate keeps trying to smother me in my sleep when I mention it.
- Mom had a birthday, I got to send her flowers at work and be obnoxious about it. I've kinda always wanted to do that.
-I went as Nellie Lovett for Halloween. Bloody apron, meat pies with fingers and all. I'm awesome.
-Election tomorrow. Consider this a warning: if you can read this, are a US citizen and over eighteen, you'd best be voting tomorrow.
I do not care who you vote for (well, I do, but I'm not trying to pressure you into voting my way) but you damn well better vote. Abstaining is not an acceptable form of protest-- many people are running for president, find one you can vote for or write someone in. Voting buys you the right to complain.
That's all.

Date: 2008-11-20 06:34 pm (UTC)How's life? Is your girl doing okay? I know she had some scary stuff some time ago.

Date: 2008-11-21 07:13 am (UTC)She had her last radioactive treatment some time ago, and should now be finally in the clear, and she has her pills, and it all seems to be working out. How are you?

Date: 2008-11-22 05:20 am (UTC)Monotomy I know alllllllllll about. *laughs* Though it hasn't been in my vocabulary the past couple weeks.
Say, do you sell your dolls or just make them for fun?

Date: 2008-11-22 09:24 am (UTC)Ah, I wish I could go to a con again. The only ones I've been too have been Ropecons back in Finland.
What kind of a job do you have? Part-time?

Date: 2008-11-22 05:40 pm (UTC)Cons are pretty great. You should come to a US one in the future-- if it's in MN I'd be glad to put you up. :D
I work full time, technically. That is, I'm supposed to be working 40 hours a week.
I work as a teacher at a special private school for kids with fairly profound learning disablilites, especially Autism, Dyslexia and Central Auditory Processing Disorder.
Because it's private, it's expensive, so we only have students when their parents have money. In this economy, their parents don't have money, we don't have as many students, and I end up working only 25 to 30 hours a week.
It's one of those things were I've saved enough so right now I'm okay, but if this continues I'll certainly have to get a second job, or possibly a new one. Which sucks because I really like my current one.
Boo economy. I will poke it with sticks.

Date: 2008-11-23 12:16 pm (UTC)Which state is MN? I'd love to come to the U.S., but it's costly, and cons are even more costly, so the girl and I will probably not plan on such a trip for a while, though we both would if it was at all excusable. At this rate, it looks like it won't be until we have bought a house, furnished it, settled down and saved some money, which would be - in three or four years, if we're lucky.
I am sorry about the economy. At the moment it's not threatening my job, especially since we're shorthanded (the corporation that hired our corporation doesn't think so, but we're showing them the figures and they're going to have to allow for more employees, I think), but if we lose the contract to some cheaper country... tsk. My only marketable asset is that I speak Finnish and live in Belgium.
Well! Let's hope for the best and play the lottery.

Date: 2008-11-23 05:42 pm (UTC)MN is Minnesota, which is basically the Finland/Sweden of the United States. You'll feel right at home. :P There aren't a whole lot of cons here, but there are some and really I'd be delighted to have you guys, whenever that may be. :)
Oh, we're all sorry about the economy. It just happens, though, and I'm confident in my abilites to land on my feet. It's excellent that you don't have to worry at this point, though. Just keep working and saving and then you can travel anywhere you want!

Date: 2008-11-24 11:43 am (UTC)I'd like to go to one of the Finnish parts of the U.S.! I'd be interested in the outsider's inside view, so to speak. You'll find Finns love it when foreigners talk about Finland. Explains the whole Conan O'Brian thing.

Date: 2008-11-25 02:33 am (UTC)Minnesota has a pretty high concentration of people descended from Finns. Especially up north, which basically looks exactly like Finland. There's even a little village that goes by "Finland," it's a sweet little place.
Well, I'm glad you like it, because I enjoy talking about my time visiting there. It was filled with the nicest people I've ever met while abroad, and that's the truth.
