I keep wondering if I'd feel differently about this if it was some other kind of a crime. If the crime has been paid for already, even if the punishment was much too lenient, to pursue it for political and/or media reasons because the perpetrator is a celebrity, especially to do so in a situation that seems to disregard the spirit of extradition law, does sound like a scary precedent, and also kind of cruel to the victim.

But then, the punishment WAS too lenient in the first place, I expect also because he's a celebrity.

And this banding together of Hollywood peeps to protect their special privileges? Also a scary precedent. I wish I could say I was surprised about Tilda Swinton, but it's only to be expected; she's a nob as well as a celeb - talk about a history of privilege!

I...dk. From what I've seen, he was going to get the book thrown at him (which may or may not be unfair, I'm not arguing that right now) so he ran away rather than trying to appeal through the due process of law.

It's that more than any other thing that gets me right now. Yes, he raped a girl. A thirteen year old. That's pretty much enough for me to want to light fire to him. But for people to know that he admitted that, ran like a coward, then laughed about the whole thing, and still support him is too much for me to take.

There are some gray moral areas in the world. Fleeing the country because you raped a girl, admitted it, then got butthurt when people weren't treating you fairly is not one of them.

(Tilda just makes me sad. I'm trying not to think about it too hard.)
